Mumbai: The Maharashtra BJP on Monday accused the Shiv Sena of favouring suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze despite allegations against him in the Antilia bomb scare case. Reacting to an article in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, BJP leader Ram Kadam said that the Shiv Sena was still favouring the “Sachin Vaze gang” despite serious charges against them.

Saamna’s latest editorial had said that Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh’s transfer was routine and not because he was guilty of anything. Questioning the statement, Ram Kadam said that if that was true then why did Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh said that the top cop was transferred because of “unpardonable mistakes in the [Antilia] case”.

“Saamna has praised the outgoing police commissioner and said it was a routine transfer. But Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that there were unpardonable mistakes in the case and hence the transfer. So was Anil Deshmukh referring to the Shiv Sena and that mistakes were committed by Sena? Who was he referring to?” questioned Ram Kadam.

The BJP leader also said that the lack of coordination between ruling alliance partners Shiv Sena and NCP was impacting the state’s law and order situation. “The Shiv Sena and the government need to answer to the people as to why they are favouring Sachin Vaze even after all these days,” he said.

In a recent article in Saamna, Shiv Sena had argued that the Parambir Singh’s did not make him an accused. “Parambir Singh was transferred from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner but the transfer doesn’t prove his guilt. He took the command of the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner during extremely difficult times. He had instilled a passion in the police to fight the Corona crisis. He himself went to an area like Dharavi. In episodes like Sushant, Kangna, he did not let the morale of the police break. Even when the CBI came forward in this case, the investigation of the Mumbai Police could not go to the CBI,” the article said.

The Saamna article hit out at the Centre and said that the Maharashtra police were capable of handling the case but the NIA was sent in only to malign the image of the state.

“There was an intrusion of ‘NIA’ in the investigation of this crime, despite the fact that terrorism is not the motive! What is the matter then? The NIA investigates cases related to terrorism,” it said.

“What did the NIA investigate in the Uri attack, Pathankot attack and Pulwama attack, what was the truth, how many criminals were arrested? This is also a mystery. But 20 gelatin sticks in Mumbai are proving to be a big challenge for the NIA,” Sena said in Saamna article

Hitting out at the Opposition, Saamna article said that the Opposition should stop dreaming of coming to power in this fashion. “The Opposition is asking who’s the political mastermind in the case...but there is no mastermind in such cases...it’s not the tradition of the state to be involved in such things... those who are responsible for the act will be punished,” the article in Shiv Sena mouthpiece said.
