MUMBAI: After social media messages and reports about reducing passing marks, delayed HSC and SSC exams, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Thursday said detailed guidelines on conducting the exams will be issued in the next two days.

Over the past few days, there have been several reports and messages on social networks informing class X and XII students of a probable change in the SSC and HSC exams, a further reduction in the syllabus, and the need to score only 25% as opposed to 35% to pass the exams.

Following the rumours, board officials on Thursday issued a clarification. “There have been several rumours about the written and oral/practical examination. This is creating panic among the students. We appeal to the stakeholders not to believe in these rumours and rest assured that the board will issue official statements from time to time. The board will issue detailed guidelines for the examination in the next two days,” said the statement. The school education minister, Varsha Gaikwad recently consulted stakeholders to seek suggestions to safely conduct the examination offline and kickstarted a campaign – ‘We can do it' for the same.

Nearly 17 lakh students appear for the SSC exams and 15 lakh take the HSC exams in the state each year. The HSC and SSC examinations will begin on April 23 and 29 and end on May 21 and 20. Similarly, the practical and oral examinations are currently scheduled to begin on April 5 and 12 for HSC and SSC respectively.
