Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to ensure the same benefits under the welfare programs, which are extended to Scheduled Castles, to minorities. The government has allocated R6060 million in the budget estimates for 2021-22 for minority welfare.
To enable minority advances in education, residential schools for minorities were established. A total of 50 percent of the schools are exclusively for girls who belong to the minority community, so that they can become independent and stand on their own two feet, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said in the state assembly on Thursday.
At the time of the founding of the state, there were only 12 minority residential schools with few facilities. The Telangana government increased their number to 204 and provided all the facilities to minority students.
In this financial year, an amount of 561 million was allocated to minority residential schools. In the prestigious educational institution ‘Jamia Nizamia’, a spacious auditorium was erected by the government at a cost of 15 million.
Construction on the ten-hectare Islamic Cultural Conference Center will begin soon. For a group of 100 minority students preparing for civil service exams, the government organizes quality training courses at a place and educational institution of their choice.
For 1,684 minority students willing to pursue their education abroad, an amount of Rs.294 million has been approved according to the overseas bursary scheme. The construction of buildings for 54 minor residential schools was charged at a cost of R1054 million.
The government celebrates the festivals of Ramzan and Christmas as state festivals on a large scale. During these festivals, new clothes are distributed to seven poor Muslims and Christians.
Through minority development corporation, special support is made available to minorities. Subsidy is granted on loans taken out for own service. Among Shaadi-Mubarak, 1,75,924 people benefited.
To date, an amount of 1 341 million has been spent on this. Although the amount spent on minority welfare in the united AP amounted to 812 million from 2008 to 2014, the Telangana government has spent 5 712 million over the past six years.
