Rupee ends flat at 72.52 per dollar amid weak domestic markets

The local unit traded in the day range of 72.42 – 72.61 on Thursday.

Indian rupee ended flat at 72.52 per dollar, amid selling seen in the domestic equity market.

It opened higher at 72.48 per dollar against the previous close of 72.54. On Wednesday the Indian currency had also ended flat. The local unit traded in the day range of 72.42 – 72.61 on Thursday.

The US dollar was on the defensive on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve projected interest rates to remain near-zero through 2023.

Oil prices dropped for a fifth day on Thursday after official data showed a sustained rise in US crude and fuel inventories, while the ever-present pandemic clouded the demand outlook.

Global oil benchmark Brent Crude traded 0.35% lower at USD 67.76 per barrel.
