India vs England 4th T20I Highlights: India beat England by eight runs in the fourth T20I against England and levelled the ongoing five-match series 2-2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Sent out to bat, India posted a challenging total of 185/8 at the end of their innings with the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s maiden T20I fifty. After the openers’ dismissals, the 30-year-old controlled the innings with a 31-ball 57. Rishabh Pant (30) and Shreyas Iyer (37) also pitched in with runs towards the end. On the other hand, Jofra Archer registered figures of 4/33. Chasing, England dominated from the start owing to Jason Roy’s 27-ball 40. Ben Stokes (46) and Jonny Bairstow (25) put the visitors in the driving seat of the contest but India turned the tables in the death overs with some fine bowling. The hosts finally restricted them to 177/8 at the end of their 20 overs.
4th T20I, Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad, 18 Mar, 2021
India brought out the big guns as they hampered England's confident run-chase with four wickets in the death overs. Archer gave the hosts a scare with a four and a six in the final over, but in the end, Virat Kohli's men restricted the visitors to 177/8 at the end of 20 overs, winning the contest by 8 runs! The series is tied at 2-2. Now, the fifth and final T20I on Saturday is the series-decider!
Pandya comes in and builds the pressure on Curran and Jordan. No boundaries at all. Curran tries to up the ante but Pandya makes things worse for England. He bowls the tailender out with an absolute beauty. Just six runs off the over. ENG: 153/7 (18 overs)
India are back in it! Shardul comes in clutch for the hosts in the death over as he scalps two huge wickets. First, he dismisses Stokes (46) off a catch by Yadav, and then he removes Morgan for 4. Washington with the catch. ENG: 140/6 (16.2 overs)
After Bairstow absolutely skinned Washington in the previous over, hitting him for two fours and a six, England are back in it. Stokes (41*) takes the baton from his partner and continues the momentum against Rahul Chahar. A four and a six takes him into his 40s. But the spinner bites back in the same over, scalping the wicket of Bairstow (25) off a catch by Washington. ENG: 132/4 (15 overs)
Stokes smashes one over deep midwicket for a maximum to finish the 12th over. England are three down but Stokes is looking to take the charge. Bairstow is providing ample support from the other end. ENG 91/3 (12 overs), need 95 more runs to win.
India were 75-3 at the same point of their innings. The stage is set for Stokes and Bairstow to play match-winning knocks, but India have the bowling quality to restrict England. ENG need 115 off 60
Hardik Pandya removes the dangerous Jason Roy (40 off 27). Roy goes for the pull but finds Suryakumar at deep mid-wicket. England are three men down. England: 66/3 (9 overs), need 120 runs in 67 balls.
OUT! Rahul Chahar gets the breakthrough for India, claims a wicket in his first over. England lose their second wicket. Dawid Malan gets out for 14. ENG: 60/2 (8 overs)
Kohli introduces Washington inside the powerplay looking for wickets, but it's all hurt for India. Roy (33*) takes on the spinner and hits him for two fours and a six that he rammed into the sightscreen. Malan is on 5* on the other end. ENG: 48/1 (6 overs)
With two boundaries against Shardul, Roy becomes the sixth English cricketer to score 1,000 runs in men's T20I cricket. Of the six batsmen to reach the landmark, Roy has the highest strike-rate. Meanwhile, Malan is on the other side on 2*. ENG: 28/1 (4 overs)
Right after walking up from their slumber, with Roy and Buttler hitting fours and sixes, England falter! Bhuvneshwar maintains his line and length and Buttler (9) gets a leading edge off his shot... and straight into the hands of Rahul. ENG: 15/1 (2.5 overs)
Jason Roy and Jos Buttler are out to open the chase for the visitors. Bhuvneshwar Kumar restarts the proceedings and he builds up some pressure early on with a maiden opener. Roy flounders but still somehow holds his ground in the end. ENG: 0/0 (1 over)
Despite gathering some genuine momentum towards the end with the help of Iyer (37) and Pandya (11), the hosts faltered towards the end. India first lost Pandya to Wood, and then Iyer to Archer in the final over. Washington (4) came on hoping to finish the innings on a high but after hitting a boundary, he fell to Archer's bowling. In the end, Shardul (10*) guided India to a 185/8 finish!
Jordan's torrid night comes to an end after he gets pummelled for 18 runs in his final over! Pandya sets the tone for the over early on with a six via a hook shot, then Iyer joins the party with his fifth four and his first six of the innings. IND: 167/5 (18 overs)
Wood rejoins the attack to build up some late pressure but Iyer swats the pacer away for two fours. But Archer succeeds where his compatriot failed. He comes in and bowls Pant (30) over with a 142.4km/h beauty! Next up, Pandya. IND: 144/5 (16.2 overs)
Ever since Yadav's departure, Pant (25*) has taken over the mantle of the big hitter. He finished the previous over with two well-time fours and then continues his rampage in Jordan's over too. A six to fine leg and a four to deep square leg. IND: 128/4 (15 overs)
Now here's some fresh controversy! Yadav's blistering innings comes to an end right after he hit his third six of the innings. The batsman is removed from the crease by Sam Curran after a long wait from the third umpire. Malan took the catch but it looked like that the ball had made contact with the ground. But the decision stayed with the soft signal in the end. IND: 110/4 (13.2 overs)
With just 11 runs coming from the last three overs, India have lost control of the match. But Yadav (50*) keeps his lone fight raging on as he hits Rashid in his final over for two brilliant boundaries -- one a sweep, another a cover drive! With the second, he brings up his maiden fifty! He started off well with a six and so far, he has been absolutely flawless in his 28 balls. IND: 92/3 (12 overs)
Will this be the big wicket that will shape the rest of the night? Rashid puts the hosts in some early trouble as he removes skipper Kohli (1) from the middle. Kohli dances down the pitch, misses the ball and gets stumped by Buttler. IND: 70/3 (8.4 overs)
Stokes has thrown an absolute spanner in India's party mood! Rahul, who is on a rather poor form recently, makes his way back to the pavilion after lobbing a Stokes' delivery straight into the hands of Archer. Just 14 off 17 balls. IND: 63/2 (7.4 overs)
