CHANDIGARH: The special investigation team (SIT) on Wednesday recorded the statement of Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer Manoj Khatri, his former personal assistant Rajinder Malhotra and an estate officer clerk in the Rs 3crore property fraud case.
The HCS officer denied allegations of his involvement in the case, saying documents were and could be verified. Cops said they would verify the statements of the three with the official complaint.
The SIT had summoned UT police ASI Parminder Singh for questioning but he did not appear. He would now report on Friday. Police have alleged the ASI was also aware about the house deal.
In the meantime, Saurabh Gupta, another accused in the case who had bought the house from main accused Sanjeev Mahajan and others, has filed an anticipatory bail in the local court. The court fixed the next date hearing on March 19.
On Sunday, the SIT had raided the house of in-laws of liquor baron Arvind Singla, one of the accused, in Ludhiana and his Sector 40.
On Monday, a court had sent former SHO Rajdeep Singh in judicial custody. The SIT had arrested Rajdeep Singh on March 12, when he appeared for questioning. His and DSP Ram Gopal’s names had surfaced in the FIR. The SIT had alleged Rajdeep Singh had helped the other accused in grabbing the property for his personal interest. Rajdeep Singh had allegedly not taken any action on the complaint of the tenant and did not enter it in the record of the police station in 2017.
The deal of the house was discussed between liquor baron Arvind Singla, Satpal Dagar, brother of DSP Ram Gopal, and Mahajan at the office of the DSP in Sector 17, when he was DSP central division, the FIR had alleged. Ram Gopal, while appearing before the SIT on March 9, had denied the allegations.
