Tamil Nadu assembly election: Veerappan encounter fame cop transferred to Chennai after wife files nomination

CHENNAI: Additional superintendent of police Velladurai, who was part of the team killed forest brigand Veerappan in 2004, has been transferred from Tirunelveli to Chennai after his wife filed her papers as an AMMK candidate in Ambasamudram assembly constituency.
Velladurai’s wife, Rani Ranjitham, who worked as a Tamil professor at a private college in Trichy, opted for voluntary retirement before filing her nomination.
Velladurai worked as an additional superintendent of police at the district crime record bureau in Tirunelveli. As Velladurai’s wife is contesting in the election, Tirunelveli inspector-general of police and city commissioner T S Anbu sent a report to director-general of police J K Tripathy. Based on the report, Tripathy transferred Velladurai from Tirunelveli to DGP headquarters without assigning in election-related duty.
