BENGALURU: In a setback for Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa and his former cabinet colleague Katta Subramanya Naidu, the high court on Wednesday set aside an order passed by a special court for Lokayukta cases that had dismissed a private complaint filed against them in a land denotification case.
On July 25, 2016, the special court had dismissed the complaint filed by Alam Pasha, an industrialist.
He challenged the order. Allowing his petition, Justice John Michael Cunha quashed the order passed by the special court and directed it to proceed with trial in terms of chargesheet filed by Lokayukta police in May 2012. TNN
Land denotification case
Leaders accused of misusing position
The case allegedly involving Yediyurappa refers to land in Hoovinayajanahalli in north Bengaluru taluk in an SEZ area.
The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board had acquired the land in 2006 to set up a hardware park and denotified it later. In Katta
Naidu’s case, the denotified land is in Makanakuppe in Nelamangala taluk. A common chargesheet had been filed in both cases.
The key allegation against the two leaders is that they misused their official position and caused losses to the state exchequer through waiver of service charges and development fee vis-a-vis denotified land.
