Hyderabad: A day after the Electoral Commission in India announced that the by-election for the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency will be held on April 17, the opposition BJP on Wednesday expressed confidence that he had rejected the seat of the ruling TRS.
Bandi Sanjay, BJP’s head of unit for Telanagana, said his party would see the vote as a challenge and win the seat.
He claims that people of Telangana BJP see it as a political alternative to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), and said the party will show its strength in the vote.
Sanjay said the results of the by-election in Dubbaka and the election of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) show that people are with the BJP.
The MP said that the party would soon announce the name of the candidate for Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll.
According to the schedule announced by the Electoral Commission, the poll notice will be issued on March 23 and the nomination process will begin on the same day. The last day for nominations is March 30 and the counting of votes will be held on May 2.
The by-election was necessary due to the death of Nomula Narsimhaiah, a sitting legislature of TRS in December last year.
TRS is likely to employ the son of Narsimhaiah Nomula Bharat. It is also reported that the name of Tera Chinnapa Reddy, a member of the Legislative Council, is being considered because the ruling party will want to tread carefully in light of the experiment in Dubbak.
TRS loses against BJP in Dubbak despite the ruling party beating S. Sujatha, widow of S. Ramalinga Reddy, whose death caused the by-election.
BJP’s M. Raghunandan Rao defeated Sujatha by 1,079 votes in the by – election held in November last year. A cheerful BJP also performed well in GHMC polls held in December, winning 48 seats in a 150-member municipal body.
Nagarjuna Sagar is likely to experience triangular match. The Congress party has already decided to present senior leader and former minister K. Jana Reddy.
Jana Reddy has won it seven times in the past. In 2018, he lost just 7,700 votes against Narsimhaiah.
