LUCKNOW: For the first time in nearly two months, more than 50 Covid-19 cases were recorded in a single day in the city on Wednesday, compelling authorities to appeal people to follow safety protocols with full vigour to check the second wave of the pandemic that has already surfaced in several cities of the country.
At least 54 people contracted the infection in the past 24 hours. The city’s tally also continued to be the highest in the state. These fresh infections included seven from Madiaon, six from Indiranagar, four each from Alambagh and Chinhat and three each from Gomtinagar, Jankipuram and Talkatora among others.
Though no casualty was reported, only 17 patients recovered from the infection in the past 24 hours, which was lower than the new infections.
This has added to the worries caused by the spike in cases because recoveries have been lower than the incidence for the past several days.
As a result of the surge and low recovery rate, the number of patients with active infection status has now reached 320. The city tally is now 82,267.
