Former chairperson of Quepem Municipal Council and BJP leader Dayesh Naik has said that he along with his supporters will gherao the director of municipal administration on March 19 to protest against the alleged injustice in the newly-announced ward reservations for Quepem municipality.
Addressing the media on Thursday in Panaji, alongwith former vice chairperson of Quepem municipality Chetan Haldankar, Naik said that reserving 62 per cent seats of Quepem Municipal Council has resulted in injustice to him and his other candidates.
Naik and Haldankar along with Suchita Shirwaikar were elected unopposed as per earlier reservation.
“We have decided to gherao DMA on March 19 in protest,” said Dayesh.
Naik is a strong supporter of the Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar. After the Supreme Court quashed the elections in the five municipalities of Margao, Mapusa, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem, Naik and other two candidates, who got elected unopposed, have received a major setback.
The government has announced new reservations for the five municipal councils.
