    How the brand loyalty story is playing out for Indian car buyers in the season of long waiting periods

    Big waiting periods are making carmakers worry that prospective buyers may simply move on to the next available brand.

    Products such as the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Mahindra Thar are today commanding a waiting period varying anywhere between two to nine months even as issues such as the shortage of semiconductors threatens to further disrupt schedules.

    Kerala based Anil John, 41, was told at the time of booking the Thar that waiting period is 10 months. Yet customers like him have held onto the bookings without cancelling it. "For me this is an affordable off-roader especially for Kerala roads, says John.
