Hyderabad: Mission Bhagiratha has eradicated the fluoride problem in the Nalgonda district forever, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said on Thursday.
He remembers a poem ‘Choodu, choodu Nalgonda … gunde meeda fluoride banda. Bokkalonkarpoina batukula mana Nalgonda .. Dukhamelladeesedennallu … ”written by Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao after seeing the hardships of Nalgonda.
The prime minister, who wrote a poem on the fluoride problem, solved the problem permanently. The central government has also acknowledged in parliament that fluorides are under threat.
In the united Andhra Pradesh during the summer, women were forced to travel miles on foot for water. Due to water pollution, many people in Adilabad suffered from diarrhea in the monsoon and lost lives. Fighting at public taps and protests were common, Harish Rao said.
The Minister took the oath to change the situation within five years from the day TRS came to power. Although it was not an election promise, he was committed to completing Mission Bhagiratha project, which he did and now provided safe water through domestic taps to all the residents in the state.
