UP govt approves nearly Rs 3,000cr for Noida airport’s 2nd phase

The UP cabinet has approved over Rs 2,890 crore for land acquisition for the second phase of Noida International Airport. The funds will be used for acquisition of 1,186 hectares of private land where the airport is to expand. Government departments such as education, irrigation, public works and urban development, however, have been asked to part with their land in the area for the airport free of cost.

Gurugram: No takers for gangster’s land in auction

The much- hyped auction of two land parcels belonging to gangster Sube Gujjar failed to attract bidders on Wednesday. Despite repeated assurances from the police that they will provide security to the bidders, the scheduled auction drew little attention from buyers. Police also failed to come up with complete documents of the plots. Four people had expressed interest in buying the land parcels, but they returned after finding that the documents produced by the police are incomplete. The properties are co-owned by Gujjar. Only shares owned by Gujjar can be auctioned as per the rules. Police will have to clarify which portions of the land parcels are owned by Gujjar before auctioning the same.

Criminal injured in encounter with Police on Yamuna Expressway

An encounter broke out between a gang of criminals and Noida Police on the Yamuna Expressway in which one gang member was injured, police said Thursday. Criminals managed to escape and the police said that a combing operation is under way to nab them. The police acted on information that the gang on the pretext of offering rides, used to take people from Delhi to various places in Noida and loot them before fleeing.

Congress protests at Jantar Mantar

Delhi Congress workers, led by DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar, held a dharna at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday to protest against the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2021 introduced by the BJP government in the Lok Sabha. The party said the amendments were intended to take away the powers of the people of Delhi, and make the chief minister a mere puppet at the hands of the central government. Addressing the protesting workers, Kumar said though the Congress presently does not have any Member of Parliament or MLA from Delhi, it was Delhi Congress that spoke against the anti-Delhi Bill first. “We, as a responsible Opposition, deemed it as our duty,” he said.

South corpn resumes drive against illegal spas, parlours

After shutting down 119 illegal spas till last December for violation of norms, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has again started a drive to act against spas and parlours operating without a health trade licence.Last week, SDMC’s public health department sealed four spas in Dwarka for violating norms, said a senior official. “We are identifying such facilities at other places, too, preparing a list and taking police help during action. Those with licence will get a showcause notice for violation of any norm before any action. In case of unlicensed ones, we issue a closure notice or a challan first,” said the official.

Woman gunned down in North Delhi

Two unidentified bike-borne men gunned down a woman in north Delhi’s Majnu Ka Tila on Wednesday morning. Police suspect the murder to be a fallout of a personal rivalry, as the woman’s belongings were intact. The deceased was identified as Meena Tamang, a 45-year-old who lived with her husband and daughter in New Aruna Nagar and ran a tea stall in the area. The family had origins in Nepal but had settled in Delhi years ago.
