The Indian Premier League is around the corner and teams are getting ready to prepare themselves for the 14the edition of the cash-rich league as the date draws near. This year’s IPL is set to start on April 9 in Chennai and run till May 30 with the final taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Teams have started their camps and Chennai Super Kings shared a video of Suresh Raina practicing on their Twitter account with the caption, “In awe of the southpaw! #ChinnaThala – Coming Soon! #WhistlePodu #Yellove @ImRaina”

Raina loved the tweet and expressed his excitement by retweeting it.

However, Raina’s return to the den could only be for training sessions as the initial phase of the IPL is set to be played without fans and Chennai won’t be able to play their games at the Chepauk as no teams will have home advantage this season.

The southpaw will return to the CSK squad after missing out last season in the United Arab Emirates because of personal reasons. Raina’s absence was felt badly by the former champions as the youngsters failed to grab the opportunity on a regular basis. Raina, a veteran of the IPL and the vice-captain of CSK, till now has 5368 runs from 193 games, including one century and 38 fifties.

Raina’s return will only bolster the CSK side that finished seventh last year — their worst ever in the tournament. Following that, they bought six players from the auction with Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham being the big names. CSK interestingly also bought Cheteshwar Pujara at his base price of INR 50 lakh. Before the auction, CSK also traded Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals to bolster their top-order with some experience.

Chennai will play their first game of the tournament on April 10 against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK squad for IPL 2021: MS Dhoni (C & WK), Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood, R Sai Kishore, Krishnappa Gowtham, Moeen Ali, Cheteshwar Pujara, K Bhagath Varma, C Hari Nishaanth and M Harisankar Reddy.
