CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday ordered the transfer of south zone inspector-general S Murugan to a non-election post with immediate effect.
Based on the inputs of special police observer, the commission also ordered the transfer of nine ACPs’ — R Anbarasan, M Velmurugan, H Krishnamurthy, P Govindaraja, MSM Vallavan, E Thirunavukarasu, M Radhakrishnan, PT Subhash, and P Gopalan Chandran — from their posts and attach them with the DGP, Headquarters, with immediate effect.
It has also directed the state to not assign these officers any election-related duty. The EC has also asked the state government to send a panel of officers for its consideration to appoint an IG in the place of S Murugan.
