UDUPI: The district has reported a total of 42 Covid-19 positive cases on Wednesday, of which 35 are from Udupi and five cases from Kundapur.
Expressing concern over the rising number of Covid-19 positive cases in the district during the past few days, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said that out of the total cases in the district, 27 are from an engineering college in
Manipal. The college campus has been declared as a containment zone.
The college has stated that the administration has decided to conduct all theory classes in online mode and defer the laboratory/ practical classes/ contact classes to a later date. Pending end semester examination for first semester BTech will be rescheduled to a later date.
Meanwhile, chairing a meeting to discuss measures to protect the district from the second wave of Coronavirus and to take steps to control the infection spread, at the
Zilla Panchayat hall, the DC said, at several places including Manipal, pubs and bars are working beyond the stipulated deadline. The DC directed the Excise department to take strict action against such violators. He also asked the public to provide information about the people who have arrived from
Kerala and
Maharashtra to the health department,
Panchayat or Tahsildar.
Wearing a mask is compulsory in public places. The DC warned that trade licenses of shops and malls will be cancelled under the Epidemic Diseases Act if employees or customers are found without a mask. Officers have been asked to conduct surprise checks. He also directed
KSRTC and private bus operators to ensure that bus conductors and drivers wear masks compulsorily. Failure to adhere to the rules would lead to the cancellation of the license of the driver and the bus owner will be booked.
All teams that were formed when
Covid cases were at the peak last year including the formation of the task force in rural areas will be reactivated. The DC said that all measures like identifying the primary and secondary contacts, home quarantine visits will be undertaken.
In the city, ASHA workers have been asked to ensure that senior citizens are vaccinated. Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat directed the Panchayat Development Officers and Taluk Panchayat executive officers to get senior citizens vaccinated in rural areas.
