Yenepoya switches to online classes

MANGALURU: Yenepoya (deemed university), which shut down its constituent colleges in the wake of an outbreak of Covid-19 cases on its campus, has switched back to online mode to ensure continuity in learning.
Dr M Vijayakumar, vice-chancellor, said online classes will continue till the threat eases and the situation returns to normal. A review will be conducted every week.
Yenepoya decided to shut all its colleges except the medical hospital from Monday after more than 40 Covid-19 cases were reported on the campus. Nine colleges including medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, healthcare professionals, Ayurveda, homoeopathy and naturopathy, have closed.
“All classes are now being held online and learning has continued without any disruptions,” said Vijayakumar.
Officials say the source of the cluster outbreak appears to be a student from Kerala, who had visited his hometown to attend a wedding. The student though had a negative RT-PCR report when he returned to the hostel.
Most of the infected students are asymptomatic. Management sources also clarified that inmates of a boys hostel were not sent back home due to the spread of the virus, but because renovation work was happening in the hostel.
