Puducherry polls: Congress releases list of 14 candidates

Puducherry [India], March 17 (ANI): The Congress party on Tuesday released a list of 14 candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in Puducherry.
Earlier on the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released a list of 9 candidates for the assembly elections in the Union Territory.
Polling for 30 assembly seats in Puducherry will be held on April 6.
Of the 30 assembly seats, five are reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidates. As many as 10,02,589 electors will choose the candidates for the 15 legislative Assembly of Puducherry.
The Congress-led government in the union territory fell before completing its five-year term under Chief Minister V Narayansamy.
Narayanasamy had resigned on February 22 ahead of a floor test in the 33-member House (including three nominated) following the resignations of five Congress and one Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislators. On February 23, President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of Narayanasamy and his council of ministers.
However, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-incharge of Puducherry, Dinesh Gundu Rao informed that the former Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will not contest the 2021 assembly elections in the Union Territory,
In the 2016 assembly polls, Congress had won 15 seats, All India NR Congress eight seats, AIADMK got four seats, DMK walked away with two MLAs. BJP could not win any seats. (ANI)

Class 11 student kidnapped by classmate, others in UP’s Prayagraj; one held

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 17 (ANI): A class 11 student was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj in a case where he along with three others allegedly kidnapped his classmate, said the police on Tuesday.
Tanveer Ahmed, the victim’s uncle said, “The boy was beaten, his video was taken after he was stripped. The accused threatened that the victim and his brother will be murdered if the police is informed about the incident. He was confined for three hours.”
Dinesh Singh Superintendent of Police Prayagraj said, “One accused have been arrested. He has been questioned. The search is going on for three others who absconded after seeing the police on road. The incident happened after an issue over a girl.”
Further investigation is underway. (ANI)

Level-3 fire breaks out at Mumbai’s Goregaon godown, brought under control

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 17 (ANI): A massive fire broke out on Tuesday evening at a godown near Rathgiri Hotel in Mumbai’s Goregaon area.
The blaze erupted around 7 pm at Samna Parivar Khadakpada in Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg in Goregaon (East).
The fire was classified as a level-3 fire.
A total of 12 fire engines and 8 tankers were used to bring the fire under control.
“Efforts are underway by the fire brigade and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to douse the fire. No casualty has been reported yet,” Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu told reporters last night. (ANI)

Six-year-old girl raped in Rajasthan’s Pushkar, one held

Ajmer (Rajasthan) [India], March 17 (ANI): A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Pushkar, the police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police, Ajmer, Jagdish Chandra Sharma informed reporters: “Yesterday, we received information that a 23-year-old man has raped a six-year-old girl under the area of Pushkar police.”
Police arrested the accused and a case registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Court and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A thorough investigation is being conducted into the matter, the SP said. (ANI)

20 held in Rajasthan in connection with gang rape of minor girl

Jhalawar (Rajasthan) [India], March 17 (ANI): Twenty people have been arrested in connection with the case in which a minor girl in Rajasthan’s Jhalwar was allegedly gang raped at separate places for over a week, police said on Tuesday.
Sharad Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police, Kota said, “A 15-year-old girl from Suket was taken to Jhalawar by two people where she was raped by a number of people for seven to eight days”.
“So far, 20 people including one history-sheeter have been arrested. All accused are from Jhalawar” the police official said.
He said that an identification parade of the accused will be done soon.

Miscreant carrying Rs 25000 bounty on his head arrested in an encounter in Greater Noida

Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 17 (ANI): A miscreant carrying Rs 25000 bounty on his head arrested in an encounter on Tuesday, said Uttar Pradesh police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Greater Noida RK Singh said, “A miscreant with a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his head was injured in an encounter with Knowledge Park Police in Sector 151.”
One more miscreant has been arrested during the encounter, police said.
A car, gun, knives, syringes, and a rope have been seized from their possession, the police official added.
According to police, the miscreant used to supply stray animals to Delhi.

Air-conditioned electric buses introduced in Lucknow

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 17 (ANI): In a move to tackle carbon emission and to provide a pollution-free environment, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced air-conditioned electric buses in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon said, “We have introduced 40 electric buses till now in the state capital. In coming months will introduce 700 more buses across the state.”
The charging stations for these electric buses are under construction, he added.
The widespread introduction of AC electric buses will ensure an enhanced infrastructure of the local transport system, assuring easier commute for the city folks, the minister pointed out. (ANI)
