Coronavirus LIVE Updates | Three deaths, 247 new COVID-19 cases logged in Telangana

Telangana continued to witness a slight increase in tally of daily coronavirus infections with 247 new additions, pushing the gross to 3.01 lakh, while the toll climbed to 1,659 with three more fatalities. Mancherial and Kamareddy districts saw a spurt in new cases after a large number of infections were reported from one school each in the two districts. 

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 2,98,009, while 2,101 were under treatment. The bulletin said 60,527 samples were tested on March 16. Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 93,59,772. The samples tested per million population was 2,51,471. The recovery rate in the state was 98.75 per cent, while it was 96.5 per cent in the country. The case fatality rate in the state was 0.54 per cent, while it was 1.4 per cent at the national level, it added.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | DDMA advises Delhi residents visiting Kumbh Mela to undergo COVID-19 test on return

Delhi residents visiting the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar have been advised to undergo RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on their return and self-monitor their health. In an advisory, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has asked people attending the congregation to take extra precautions and follow COVID-19-related instructions issued by authorities. 

A sizeable number of pilgrims from Delhi are expected to visit the mela beginning on April 1, it said. "As advised by Uttarakhand government in view of COVID-19 pandemic, all the residents of Delhi are required to take extra precautions during their visit to Kumbh Mela in Haridwar," the advisory stated.

Pilgrims from Delhi have been advised to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for managing the COVID-19 pandemic during the Kumbh Mela as well as all relevant instructions issued by the Uttarakhand government.
 

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | Five states account for over 70 per cent of new COVID-19 infections

Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu continue to report a high number of daily COVID-19 cases, accounting for 71.10 per centof the 28,903 new infections, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. It said 83.91 per cent of the new cases are from Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Maharashtra alone accounts for 61.8 per cent of the daily new cases with 17,864 cases. It is followed by Kerala with 1,970 while Punjab reported 1,463 new cases, the ministry said. Kerala is reporting a consistently declining trend over the last one month. India's total active caseload has reached 2.34 lakh (2,34,406) comprising 2.05 per cent of the total infections.

US manufacturer Moderna on Tuesday said it has started COVID-19 vaccine trials for children aged from 6 months to under 12 years old, with plans to enroll about 6,750 participants. "We are pleased to begin this Phase 2/3 study of mRNA-1273 in healthy children in the US and Canada," said CEO Stephane Bancel in a statement.
