BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma found dead in Delhi residence

Shimla / New Delhi: Bandi MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh Ram Swaroop Sharma was found hanging from the ceiling in his official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, police said.

Police, Delhi Chinmoy Biswal, said his body was hung from a ceiling fan. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Sixty-two-year-old Sharma suffered from various ailments.

In the first place, it appears to be a case of suicide, police said, adding that no suicide note was found from the scene.

An investigation is underway and the exact cause of his death will be determined after a post-mortem, police said.

Lok Sabha’s proceedings were postponed until 1pm after an obituary referring to Sharma.

Sharma was born on June 10, 1958 in Jalpehar village in Mandi district and was a dual MP.

He was elected in 2014 and 2019 respectively to the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha from the parliamentary constituency Mandi.

According to police, his assistant was called to the Police Control Room (PCR) at about 07:45 after the parliamentarian did not respond to a knock on his door.

A police team reaches the scene and forces the door open and finds Sharma hanging from a ceiling fan.
