Late actress Noxolo Maqashalala (44) was found dead in her Johannesburg home this past weekend. The circumstances around her death had not been confirmed at the time, but earlier this week police had noted that their preliminary investigation showed no signs of foul play.

Now, the family has offered some sense of clarity regarding her death. Speaking to Sowetan, Maqashalala’s uncle Khabo Maqashalala said that the postmortem proved that there was nothing sinister that happened in relation to his niece’s death.

“When we heard the news of her death, it hit us hard as the family,” he said.

“We asked ourselves if she was poisoned or had been sick but the postmortem has proven that there was nothing sinister. We will continue enjoying her work in different shows where she was featured and remind ourselves of the good person she was. People from this village loved and cherished her.”

He added that the family was, and continues to be, proud to have produced a star like Maqashalala.

“She put the family name out there and we loved that… we will miss her beautiful smile.”

Noxolo Maqashalala is set to be buried in Kwa Bhaca (formerly Mount Frere) on Saturday, the same day that the late Menzi Ngubane will be buried in Ladysmith KZN.
