THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stated that the Covid-19 cases in Kerala have reduced by 37% in the past one week. He also said that Kerala is the state where Covid vaccination is progressing at a very fast pace.
The test positivity rate (TPR) has come down to less than 3 in the state. “The Union health secretary has praised Kerala for its attempts to bring down the TPR. Though the number of patients dipped in the past few days, we didn’t reduce the number of tests,” the chief minister said. As of now, vaccine was administered to around 16 lakh persons in the state. Kerala is the state where most number of vaccine doses were given on the basis of population density. Kerala tops among the states in conducting Covid tests as well,” Vijayan said.
The government is planning to administer vaccines to the elderly people in rescue centres and shelter homes at their places. They will not have to go to vaccination centres, rather the healthcare team would reach their places. “Measures are being taken in this regard. It has been a year since we started the ‘break the chain’ campaign. It seems to have paid off well in control the spread of the pandemic. Still, we should continue the vigil as the pandemic wouldn’t subside fast,” he said.
He also warned the people about sunstroke and other problems related to the rising mercury levels. “All precautions should be taken while going out between11am and 3pm. Drink water at fixed intervals even if there is no thirst,” Vijayan said.
