Woods returns to Florida to recover from a car accident

Florida: Tiger Woods is back home in Florida to resume his recovery from the career-threatening leg injuries he sustained when his SUV ran off a road and up a hill in the suburbs of Los Angeles last month.

“Happy to report that I’m back home and continue my recovery,” Woods said in a tweet Tuesday night.

“I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement I have received over the past few weeks.”

Woods was injured on Feb. 23, two days after the Genesis invitation at Riviera. He was on his way to a television recording for Golf TV shortly after 7am when his SUV crashed into a median, rolled over and landed on its side near a steep road known for wrecks, help the government. He had to be pulled out through the windshield.

He underwent a lengthy operation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center that day for fractured tibia and fibula bones of his lower right leg in several places. It was stabilized with a stick in his tibia. Additional injuries to the legs in his foot and ankle required screws and pins.

He was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for follow-up procedures.

Woods thanked the medical staff at both hospitals for caring for him.

“I will strengthen at home and work every day to get stronger,” Woods said in the statement.

Dozens of players at the Workday Championships in Florida wore black trousers and red shirts – Woods’ Sunday colors – to his 82 victories on the PGA record in the final round.

Woods kept in touch via text message and sent it to Bryson DeChambeau before his Bay Hill victory and Justin Thomas, one of his closest friends in golf, before his victory in The Players Championship on Sunday.

Rory McIlroy suggested in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that Woods may be on his way to Florida.

“He’s doing better,” McIlroy said. ‘I think all the guys reached out to him. Hopefully if he does well next week, he might be able to come home and start recovering at home, which will be good for him. See his children, see his family.

“But yes, he’s getting better. And I think we all wish him a speedy recovery at this point.? McIlroy and Thomas are among those living near Woods in Jupiter, Florida.
