KPR Mills education programme: 8 guest workers clear Class X, XII board exams

COIMBATORE: KPR Mills’ education programme that provides coaching, admissions and time for their employees to study up to post-graduation and attempt the civil services exams has extended this facility to their migrant workers too.
The first batch of 10 guest workers attempted both Class X and XII board exams in the National Open School system in October last year, and the results were declared on Monday. Eight of them cleared the exam.
KPR Mills has guest workers from Orissa and other Northern states at their units since 2017.
The company now has 2,700 migrant workers from other states.
Based on the success of their education programme for Tamil Nadu workers, in 2019 the company decided to extend their work and study programme to their guest workers too. After research, they decided to tie up with National Open School exams and called on interested workers to step forward.
The company then got teachers from Orissa to teach students in Hindi and Oriya.
While Class X students took up business studies, social science, home science, data entry operator and Language as their subjects, Class XII students opted for language, history, political science, geography and data and entry operator.
Under Hindi medium, eight students passed the exam and in Oriya medium, two students cleared.
Encouraged by these results, as many as 270 migrant workers gave their names for the study programme in the coming year.
Earlier only students who could study in English or Tamil medium were given this opportunity and were writing the Tamil Nadu matriculation and state board exams.
