BALLARI: A man allegedly murdered his wife when she was feeding her seven-month-old baby in Pujarahalli village of Kudligi taluk, Vijayanagara district on Monday under the influence of alcohol.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Shantamma.
Accused Manjunath, a resident of Hurulihal village got married to Shantamma five years ago after the death of his first wife. “Manjunath and Shantamma have three children. Manjunath is an alcoholic and would quarrel with his wife at her mother’s home,” said the villagers.
“It’s learnt that he assaulted his wife with a deadly weapon when no one was there at home. When we rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of Shantamma, she was found in a pool of blood while kid was crying beside her,” they added.
Khanahosahalli police said they have arrested Manjunath and registered a case.
