With the Xbox Series X FPS boost mode now available for Bethesda titles that just landed in Xbox Game Pass such as Prey, Fallout 76, Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Dishonored, it turns out that the route to 60fps comes with a resolution downgrade. According to video game tech analysis channel ElAnalistaDeBits, each of these games have an increased frame rate to 60fps from 30. On Xbox Series X however, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 run at 1080p with FPS boost on while Prey runs at 1440p and Dishonored at 1080p. Skyrim maintains 60fps at 2160p though. You can check out the video right here.
As for the Xbox Series S, all games have a 1080p resolution at 60fps with the exception of Prey. Arkane's awesome immersive sim is at 900p.
It should come as no surprise that unlocking 60fps in some titles does result in lower resolution and it'll be interesting to see how future FPS boost updates are applied to other games. With the likes of The Evil Within and Wolfenstein in Microsoft's stable, perhaps it could make a host of last-gen titles run as intended versus what we actually got at launch.
