Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) The CBI probing the coal smuggling scam and Enforcement Directorate uncovered tiger cubs trafficking began raids separately to at least nine places, including Kolkata and coal belt areas of the Asansol region, an official source said on Tuesday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths in separate groups from early today fanned out in parts of the city, Asansol, Baraboni, Kulti and Durgapur to raid the offices and other places of businessman Amit Agarwal, who is close to absconder and prime coal mafia suspect Anup Majhi alias Lala, the coal smuggling case.
The central agency was suspecting that the businessman used to invest ill-gotten money from many influential people in the state, besides was a buyer of himself of illegally coal extracted from the mines in the PSU in the coal region of the state.
The CBI was raiding the office of the businessman at Shakespeare Sarani in the city while the latest report came in.
The ED also began raiding at three places in the city and Howrah after the central agency uncovered that some groups involved in the trafficking of tiger and lion cubs to some foreign countries.
