New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought responses from the authorities on a plea filed by 'Pinjra Tod' activist Natasha Narwal seeking enrollment back into her PhD Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
A single judge bench of Justice Prateek Jalan directed the state authorities to file their response in the matter within two weeks.
Narwal, who is arrested and imprisoned under the stringent anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a north east Delhi riots case, has been pursuing the doctorate degree at JNU since 2018.
Counsels Kunal Negi and Adit S Pujari, appearing for Narwal submitted that she wants to enroll the 3rd year of her degree and the whole process of enrollment is online. As there is no access of digital facilities in jail she could not join the course, the plea contended.
Earlier, she was denied bail by the Karkardooma Court in the national capital citing the accused have been charge sheeted for allegedly being part of a premeditated conspiracy in the riots and there were grounds to believe the accusation against her were prima facie true.
Clashes had broken out between supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act and those opposing it between February 23 and 26 last year in North East Delhi, killing at least 53 people and injuring hundreds.
