Drinking water in buckets:HP's agony, says min

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Many areas of Himachal Pradesh still lack the sufficient supply of drinking water as people have to carry potable water in buckets for domestic use.

This was stated by the Jal Shakti Minister Mr Mahinder Singh Thakur
while replying to a short discussion in on cut motion of IPH department in the state
assembly on Tuesday.
He said on January 25, 2019, Prime minister Jal Jeevan Mission was
launched by the Government sanctioned Rs 3,75000 Cr project in the
country to bring all the left out areas under this flagship programme.
The Himachal Pradesh was brought under special category state and
state are getting central funding on the ration of 90 per cent to 10
per cent to be shared by center and state.

Minister accepted that Jai Ram Government could not do any new
developmental work in 2020 as it was wasted in the pandemic, however,
number of new schemes were started in the rest two years.
Justifying the allotment of schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission he
said keeping the difference in the geographical area and
demography of various vidhan sabha requirement of schemes disparity
is inevitable while allowing new schemes as same criteria could not be
applicable in similar way.
'' Jai Ram Government is giving priorities under this flagship program
keeping THE requirement of each assembly segment, Mr Thakur said
government is running this project on the guidelines and priority of
the central schemes.
Jal Jeevan Mission launched for five years from 2019 to 2024 was
divided in two components including augmentation of water supply
schemes and repairing of pipelines and water storage tanks.
Slamming the Opposition member for blaming govt to adopt disparity
under the Jal Jeevan mission he said he did not pass any order
to not to prepare detail project report (DPR) of opposition members.
Minister warned that state is heading toward worst ever drought
condition as there is drastic fall in the water flow of Yamuna and
Beas river. Haryana and Delhi Government is already facing shortage of
water supply due to falling down of water discharge in the water
supply schemes.
