Xiaomi files patent for a user privacy-centric technology: Report

Chinese technology company Xiaomi seems to be working on improving the data privacy on its devices. It has filed a privacy-related patent for the same, as per a report by GizmoChina.
The patent reportedly describes the functioning of a sensor on a smartphone that will be able to sense and tell whether a face is looking at the screen, if it comes within the sensor’s range, to determine whether someone is trying to look at the screen of someone else’s phone.
According to the report, the sensor will be able to sense and capture at least one face and will try to figure out if someone is peeping at the screen with the help of its face recognition algorithm. This looks like a privacy feature only but it is not known whether Xiaomi plans to bring it to any of its devices anytime soon.
But what after it captures the face of someone looking at the screen of the device? Is it going to be that foolproof? The feature, it looks like, has been planned to discourage people from looking at someone’s phone. The range between the device and the ‘peeper’ is important here to get a confirmation about the perpetrator. Companies file a lot of patent applications that don’t see the light of day and nothing can be said about this one too for sure when it comes to surety about its incorporation in a Xiaomi device.
