181 including 59 independents are in fray of Tripura ADC

Agartala, Mar 16 (UNI) After scrutiny of nominations for election to upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) to be held on April 6 next, the state election commission has declared as many as 181 candidatures including 59 independents is valid, which indicated multi-cornered fight in the elections.

According to the election authority, during scrutiny only four nominations were rejected in 28 –members’ ADC poll where 28 candidates contesting from Congress, 26 from CPI-M, 17 from IPFT, 14 candidates contesting from BJP, one from CPI, 5 from INPT, 31 from other political parties and 59 independents are in the fray so far.

The dissident candidates of the ruling BJP and IPFT have submitted the nomination as independent candidates after not being chosen by the parties. And, in some cases committed BJP and IPFT cadres have filed nominations protesting the alliance. However, leaders of both BJP and IPFT claimed despite all odds they would secure their victory and form the council.

The last date of withdrawal is scheduled for tomorrow. A total of 8.65 lakh voters including 4.36 lakh male and 4.28 lakh female voters would exercise their franchise across 1,244 polling stations set up in 1,060 places in the ADC elections.
