India will clash with England in the third match of the T20I series in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. With the series tied at 1-1, the game assumes huge significance and both the teams would go all-out to take the lead and ascendancy in the five-match contest. What will define the encounter would be the finer match-ups within the larger battle. We look at three such potential clashes in the match.

1. Rohit Sharma vs Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer was the Player of the Match in the series opener in Ahmedabad. He set India back getting rid of their ace opener KL Rahul with the second delivery of his spell. He was fast and hostile yet bowled a tight line and length. He was relentless and came back to pick two more wickets at the death including the dangerous Hardik Pandya. Archer will be the trump card in England’s bowling line-up.

He will surely pepper Rohit Sharma with some short-pitched stuff but the formidable Indian opener is a fine player off the pull shot and will not shy away from the challenge. A fascinating battle awaits!

2. Rishabh Pant vs Adil Rashid

Rishabh Pant may well again be seen batting at number 4 to counter England’s spin ace Adil Rashid. With his stock delivery coming into the left-hander, Pant would go with the turn and look to use his feet and attack the leg break bowler. But it may not be that easy on a wicket expected to assist spin and turn.

Rashid will look to slip in a few quiet overs in the middle phase of the Indian innings. To counter that is the exact reason why Pant has been promoted by Kohli. The winner of this battle could well be from the victorious side.

3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Jos Buttler

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been excellent for India with the new ball in the first couple of matches. He has kept the English batsmen under check and also picked the big wicket of Jos Buttler early in the second encounter. Kumar has a brilliant economy rate of 7.05 in T20I cricket and is one the most restrictive pace bowlers in the format’s history.

Jos Buttler has still not been at his explosive best in the series. But the right-handed opener is one of the most destructive batsmen in limited overs cricket with a strike rate of almost 145 in all T20 cricket. He has all the shots in the book and can be extremely unconventional and innovative.

How will Bhuvneshwar control Buttler? Will he vary his pace on a slow-ish pitch? Will he bowl a slightly fuller length? It promises to be an intriguing battle.
