Haryana inoculates over 1.58L in a day

Chandigarh: In what appears to be the highest single day vaccination, 1,58,901 beneficiaries, majority of them between 45 to 60 years and above were inoculated during the ‘Mega Vaccination Day’ observed by Haryana health department on Monday. Total vaccination figure in the state has reached 6,81,264.
However, the new Covid-19 cases continue to be a worry as the state reported 420 new cases and three deaths during the day. As many as 300 were declared recovered. With this the overall tally of the state has gone to 2,75,557 cases, 3,077 deaths, 2,69,268 recoveries, and 3,212 active cases.
According to information, the Haryana health authorities had an aim of 1,21,500 jabs during the day and achieved 131% of its target.
Ambala achieved the 200% target as total 20,000 persons were vaccinated. Similarly, other districts which overachieved the targets with over 150% achievement included Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar Karnal, Sonipat and Rohtak districts.
Besides Mewat, other districts which could not reach 100% target included Hisar, Jind, Kaithal and Panipat districts.
The state had achieved the half a million vaccination target on Sunday, when the state had given jabs to over 40,000 beneficiaries across the state.
Haryana’s additional chief secretary (ACS) for health Rajeev Arora said the structural planning, proactive initiatives ensuring wide mobilisation resulted in an overwhelming response to the special vaccination drive. The health department has decided to observe every Monday as ‘Mega Vaccination Day’.
“Most of the beneficiaries who were administered vaccine were above 60 years of age and between 45-to-60 years with co-morbidities. The department has increased the number of vaccination centres so people do not have to travel long distance for inoculation,” said Arora.
The deaths on Monday were reported from Gurgaon, Faridabad and Kurukshetra districts. In addition, 11,400 tests were conducted on the day. The postivity rate was recorded at 4.66% and the death rate remained stable at 1.12%.
Maximum 81 new cases were reported from Gurgaon, followed by 79 in Kurukshetra, 59 in Yamuanangar, 40 in Panchkula, 31 each in Faridabad and Karnal, 20 from Jind, 18 from Ambala, 11 from Sirsa and 10 from Rohtak. Rest 12 districts reported less than 10 cases.
