Snapdragon SC7295 in the works, a mid-range chip for ARM laptops based on the S775

Qualcomm Windows Chrome OS Mobile hardware Rumors

Qualcomm has a new Snapdragon 700-series chipset in the works, the SM7350, which may or may not launch as the Snapdragon 775. The base hardware is used for another project too, a chipset for ARM-powered laptops.

That is the SC7295, which will be a successor to the Snapdragon 7c from last year. It will be a mid-range option for Windows and ChromeOS devices and should have the advantage of an integrated 5G modem.

The chip's CPU will feature the familiar 1+3+4 arrangement. The one prime core will clock up to 2.7 GHz, while the other three big cores will go up to 2.4 GHz. The final four efficiency cores will run at 1.8 GHz.

Leaked specifications of the Snapdragon 775 show support for LPDDR5 RAM (3,200 MHz) as well as the older LPDDR4X (2,400 MHz). Storage will be handled by two-lane UFS 3.1 Gear 4. There’s no word on the GPU yet.

The SC7295 will likely be fabbed on a 5 nm process, which should allow laptops to advertise all-day battery life.

More powerful options are already available, with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 being unveiled late last year. It is featured in the Acer Spin 7 5G as an alternative to an Intel Core i5 10th gen (Qualcomm claims its chip is both faster than that i5 and more power efficient to boot). Note that the 8cx Gen 2 is a 7 nm chip derived from the Snapdragon 855, so the SC7295 should have the upper hand in terms of efficiency.

A new flagship is coming to replace the Gen 2. That will be the SC8280XP, early info suggests that all four of its big cores will run at 2.7 GHz, instead of just the prime core. Also, it will feature a top of the line GPU dubbed Adreno 690.
