“CUNY applauds the State Senate and Assembly budget proposals that strongly support public higher education and most importantly would help us continue to provide much-needed opportunity to our students, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are grateful for the proposed increase in capital investments to support facilities improvements and critical maintenance and for additional operating supports. We welcome aid for childcare services, students with disabilities, mental health initiatives, and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. We are pleased to see additional supports for community colleges that would enable CUNY to expand workforce training in response to the pandemic, train workers for green energy jobs and continue our acclaimed Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP).
“As perhaps the most potent engine of social mobility in the United States, CUNY has afforded opportunities and hope to generations of New Yorkers, regardless of means or background, thanks to the unwavering support of our colleagues in government. Our students, and our entire community, have been hard hit by the pandemic. The critical supports in these proposals would help CUNY be a key anchor in the recovery of New York City and New York State. We thank CUNY’s champions in the Senate and Assembly for their commitment to our University and its historic mission.”
