MUMBAI: Dharavi area on Tuesday reported 21 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single day infection tally since October last year.
Previously the locality had reported 22 cases on October 6 last year.
So far the slum cluster has reported 4,279 Covid-19 cases off which 3,850 have recovered while 113 are active cases.
The number of Covid cases in the locality, which were below 10 a day for the past few months, have been hovering between 10 and 20 since the past fortnight.
Keeping this in mind, civic officials have once again began screening the entire population in the slum cluster.
While officially, the population of Dharavi is around seven lakh but then it is estimated to be around 8.5 lakhs due to unaccounted migration.
Covid-19 had entered Dharavi on April 1 last year and there were days when over 80 cases per day were reported as well.
For instance, May 3, 2020 witnessed 95 positive cases while on May 15, the slum area repored 84 new cases.
