Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha warned that criminal cases will be booked against those who violate the Covid-19 guidelines.
He was speaking after receiving the second dose of vaccine against Covid-19 on Tuesday.

Dr K Sudhakar during the video conference have warned people to be more cautious about the possibilities of a second wave of infection. We should not give an opportunity for another lockdown. All of us should follow the guidelines related to wearing mask, maintaining social distancing and use sanitizers. People should follow the fresh guidelines issued for marriages and other public programmes. We will continue the process of imposing penalty for the next three days. Thereafter, we will initiate the process of booking criminal cases against those violate the Covid-19 guidelines. Meanwhile, trade license of shops and other establishments will be cancelled, if violations found in their premises,” the DC warned.
He said the district, which was reporting about 5 – 6 fresh cases in January, has been reporting an average of 20 cases at present. “The positivity rate in the district, which was below 0.3% - 0.5%, has increased to 1.5% - 1.6%,” he said.
Many of the frontline workers from various government departments, who have received the first dose of
Covishield, have not come forward to get the second dose yet. They should receive the second dose compulsorily any time after the completion of 28 days of the first dose. Udupi is in the second place when it comes to the number of healthcare workers and frontline workers receiving vaccine. The district is in the sixth place in the vaccination of senior citizens and people above 45 years with comorbidities, he said adding that the district has already administered vaccines to 17,000 elderly persons and those with comorbidities. More vaccine centres will be opened if needed, he said.
On people arriving from Maharashtra, the DC said all of them should bring
RT-PCR negative certificate not older than 72 hours. In case they reach without the certificate, the
health department will make them undergo tests.
