Team India suffered a crushing defeat against England in the first T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On the day, nothing went India’s way — in batting, bowling, or even fielding. In fact, there was an on-field clash between Washington Sundar and Jonny Bairstow, that caught everyone’s attention.
The incident happened during the 14th over of England innings, where Sundar bowled one to Dawid Malan, and the latter hit it straight back to the bowler. But Bairstow somehow was caught in between Sundar and the ball. That meant, Sundar wasn’t able to complete a rather simple catch.
Miffed with the dropped chance, Sundar had a heated exchange with Bairstow, before the umpires intervened.
Meanwhile, ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has now become most successful bowler in the shortest format, in the country. The diminutive Chahal, surpassed Jaspreet Bumrah’s tally of 59 wickets, trapping Jos Buttler LBW. Chahal now has 60 wickets from 46 T20Is at an economy of 8.34 per over. On the other hand, Bumrah has 59 from 50 T20Is at 20.25 and an economy rate of 6.66 runs per over. It was also another feat for Chahal as this was his 100th international match for India, after he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in Harare, back in 2016. In ODI cricket, Chahal has better returns, 92 wickets from 54 matches.
Meanwhile, an all-round England thumped India by eight wickets in the opening T20I of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. In a perfect day’s play for the visitors, they restricted India to 124 for 7 upon winning the toss and then smashed the chase in just 15.3 overs. Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 23 from his 4 overs while Jason Roy top scored for England with 49.
