The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which was suspended because of a COVID-19 outbreak among players and support staff, could resume in June. Franchises got together via a virtual meet along with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and it is being understood that a window in two and a half month's time in June will be ideal to complete the 2021 edition in Karachi.

"This was unanimously agreed by the six franchise owners and the PCB in a virtual meeting held on Thursday afternoon after taking into consideration all factors relating to event organisation," read a statement from PCB.

PCB is also planning to work on its coronavirus protocols, which have received some criticism after the season came to a halt abruptly last week. A two-member independent committee of specialists has been established, which will help PCB understand the reason behind the breach of the bio-secure bubble and also provide them with sound advice with regards to future safety measures. The independent panel is supposed to submit the findings and recommendations to PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani by March 31, according to the board.

The franchises and the board is understood to have met more than once over the last couple of days to find a suitable time to complete the remaining 20 games. Initially, a slot in March-April was believed to be the best opportunity but the board failed to convince Cricket South Africa to postpone their home series against Pakistan, thus, blocking the way for the PSL to take place. Therefore, the PCB looked at the best possible solution and it could only be found somewhere in between May 13 to June 26, after Pakistan's tour of Zimbabwe and before their tour of England.

Cricket in the summer months is difficult in Pakistan and that's why Karachi was decided as a venue ahead of Lahore because of the milder temperatures there during the peak summer months.

With COVID-19 still around, it remains to be seen what the PCB does in order to create a bio-bubble following the breach last time. It is believed that they might go for a specialist firm to do the same. The board said that it will now look into the logistical challenges and revert to the franchise owners and stakeholders.
