    Cholesterol when losing weight

    Hi,
Does anyone have any knowledge about cholesterol - more specifically Triglycerides?

I did a test last year and although my total cholesterol level was ok (4 mmol), the triglycerides level was high at 4.1 mmol.

This prompted me to lose weight, and so far I have lost about 10kg. This has had a good effect on my B/P aswell which has gone from 160 systolic to 120.

I’m at around 74kg now and did another Cholesterol test - the total cholesterol reading has gone down to 2.5 mmol, but the triglycerides are now at 5 mmol.

I’ve done some reading about this and some websites are saying the triglycerides can increase during weight loss before coming down once weight has stabilised. Does anyone else have any knowledge around this? (Or had it happen to them?)

Did you do the test fasted?

How much refined sugar are you eating?
The power of carbs compels me!

Had a Protein shake about 3 hours before (powder with water).

I don’t eat much processed food at the moment, although I’m wondering maybe if protein bars are contributing to this , I usually have one most days

Edited to add my average diet:

    Morning:
Either - 2 scoops of whey in water
    Or
250g 0% fat Greek yogurt, 40g muesli, 1 scoop whey

    Lunch:
    5 rice cakes
    250-300g 0% fat cottage cheese
    Or
    5 scrambled eggs
    3 pieces of toast

    Afternoon
2 scoops of whey with water

    Dinner
    75g brown rice
Some form of protein eg fish, stir fry veg etc

Protein bar (got loads of these myprotein flapjacks to get rid of so pretty much been one of these for a while.

This usually comes to about 1850 calories
