India vs England: 'Question Should Have Some Logic' - Virat Kohli When Asked Ashwin's T20I Chances

India captain Virat Kohli on Thursday all but ruled out R Ashwin’s inclusion in the plans for the ICC T20 World Cup unless Washington Sundar has a very poor run. Kohli explained that the team cannot have two players of the same discipline and said it was logically tough to have Ashwin in the side.

“Washington has been doing really well for us. You cannot have two players (Washington and Aswhin) of the same discipline playing in one spot so unless Washi has a drastically horrible season and things go south for him, I mean the question should be asked with some kind of logic as well. You suggest where you would add Ash when Washington does that job for the team,” Kohli said in a virtual press conference on Thursday.

Kohli also betrayed disappointment on Varun Chakravarthy failing to pass the fitness tests once again, saying each individual has to do what’s required to stay fit.

“Individuals have to understand and appreciate the kind of system that’s been created for the Indian cricket team. We should operate at a very high level of fitness and skills, there is a reason why this is a top of a ladder when it comes to playing cricket in our country,” said Kohli.

“You would obviously expect players to abide by what’s required to be a part of team India and there can’t be a space to comprise in that regard,” he added.

Kohli also welcomed Bhuvneshwar Kumar back in the side after an injury forced break, saying the pacer will be in the plans for the World Cup.

“Bhuvneshwar is shaping up really well. He has come back, he is fit. He has worked really well to get back to full fitness and look he is a smart operator, we have seen that in the past. He continues to bring that experience onto the field which is going to be vital for us. He has a clear understanding of what he wants to do going forward,” said Kohli

“He wants to contribute towards many more Indian wins in the coming months. Obviously in the T20 World Cup, we would need our most experienced bowler and he is right up there with anyone else in the world in the start, in the middle, and in the death as well. He is a guy you can bank on and I am very glad to have him back. Hopefully, he can build strongly from here and be as ready as he is now for the World Cup.”
