The Reaud Guest House in Beaumont will reopen for medical patients and their families in need of a comfortable place to stay after closing shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The nonprofit organization announced that it will be open to accept guests after April 5 at its facility on College Street near the campus of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.
The Reaud Guest House is a nonprofit organization that provides comfortable, low-cost overnight accommodations for families of hospitalized patients and patients receiving outpatient treatments at local medical facilities created through a partnership with the Beaumont Foundation of America, Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas and the Reaud Charitable Foundation.
“We understand the importance of public safety and the safety of those in need of our services,” said Brooke Morrow, executive director of the Reaud Guest House. “Businesses have had to reconsider safety measures to attempt to protect employees throughout the pandemic and we now have protocols in place where we feel comfortable to reopen and serve the community as we have for the past decade.
The medical hospitality house features 19 private guest rooms with restrooms, access to a kitchen and dining room area, guest computers and library area.
People expecting to have medical appointments after April can make appointments with Reaud Guest House or by doctor’s referral.
A 100-unit rental property previously owned by the Beaumont Housing Authority will return to the market as a completely renovated apartment building under a new owner.
The Estes Companies, based in Sugar Land, closed on the former Concord Home Apartments at the end of December and is moving forward with a rebranding under the name Verandas of Beaumont Apartments for the property at 2020 Cottonwood St.
As part of that new identity, the company said it is starting a full renovation this month and expects early move-ins as soon as the end of March.
“2020 was without a doubt a challenging year for so many, and like most people, we found ourselves reevaluating and pivoting how we work along with the rest of the world,” Founder and CEO Andrew Estes said in a statement. “Now more than ever, we’re proud of the growth mindset everyone has adapted when it comes to offering virtual tours and digital management software at each of our properties.”
The company plans to have a phased renovation, with different sections of the property completed in an 18-month cycle and residents moving in as each building is reopened.
Verandas will feature floor plans ranging in size from one to four bedrooms. All units will come pre-wired with high-speed internet access. Community amenities include expanded playgrounds to accommodate wider age groups of children, a dog park, and picnic and grilling areas.
The Estes Companies bought its first multifamily property in 2014 when it acquired and restored a 70-unit property in Baytown.
Its newest buy will add a fourth Beaumont property to its portfolio, alongside the nearby Terrazo and Mosaic apartments acquired in 2016 and the Broadway Apartments bought in 2019.
“The Beaumont community has been very welcoming to us, and we look forward to introducing our fourth property, Verandas, to them soon,” Estes said in a statement.
