Multifuel stations way forward for EVs

    TO THE EDITOR:

Jamie Butters’ “EV plans and some damn lies” (March 1) was excellent. One million EVs/PHEVs can be sold annually by 2025, but the upfront cost is $2 trillion to $3 trillion.

Shell Oil recently said it will install 500,000 charging outlets at its stations by 2025. Exxon and others must follow, or they are history. Such installations will end range anxiety.

Shell is following the multifuel network I have advocated for three decades. And competitors that follow it will effectively be players in the electric vehicle and hybrid market into the future. Those that don’t will follow the path that the electric and steam cars of a century earlier took into oblivion.

NORMAN HIGBY President, WMP Forecasts, Menlo Park, Calif.
