CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan says the DMK’s vision document is a copy of his party’s agenda. Kamal said salary for housewives and 50 lakh jobs for youth announced by him four days ago was repeated on Sunday by DMK leader M K Stalin, though phrased differently. Terming April 6th (election day) as Bhogi, Kamal Haasan said that it is time for the old (parties) to make way and called the Dravidian parties a ‘corrupt conglomerate’.
The matinee idol-turnedpolitician began his public meeting at Mint in Harbour constituency by condoling the death of APJ Mohammed Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraikayar, elder brother of former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The 104-year-old breathed last at his Rameswaram residence around 7 30 pm.
“There are two bits of sad news today. One is the death of APJ Abdul Kalam’s elder brother. The other is that Tamil Nadu’s health is in a critical state and the state is in ICU. We (MNM) are only the nurses. You (people) are the doctors. Time for us to save the state,” Kamal said. Criticising the Congress for joining hands with DMK, Kamal said that it is disappointing to see a party formed by those who fought against the British siding with looters. Kamal’s attempts to claim the legacy of MGR were evident again as he hit back at the critics of a third front in the state and pointed out that even MGR came as a third front. Kamal likened himself to MGR more than once during his 45-minute speech.
Earlier in the day, vice-president of MNM, V Ponraj, an aide of former President APJ Abdul Kalam too took a dig at DMK President MK Stalin for his vision document.
