From waste to energy: Prayagraj gets plant that turns plastic waste into fuel

Plastic waste takes years to decompose and harms the environment severely. For years, efforts have been made to recycle plastic to minimise harm and environmental degradation. In a similar attempt, a plant has been constructed in Uttar Pradesh that converts plastic waste to fuel.

The plant was inaugurated on Thursday by Prayagraj mayor Abhilasha Gupta Nandi in Baswar. The plant will be operated by the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Plant will reduce environment degradation

As per an environmental engineer of PMC, Uttam Verma, the plant will use single-use plastic waste and will convert them to diesel and gas. Verma added, “single-use plastic wastes, produced in the municipal limits of the city is harming the environment because of which single-use plastic has been banned by the municipal corporation. By this plant getting operated, this menace would be taken care of. ”

The plant has already started preparing organic fertiliser and RDF prepared from the garbage, The Times of India reported. Now, the plant will start processing the waste to convert it into diesel.
