Nirmal: Tensions were running high in the district of Bhainsa when two groups clashed on Sunday night in different parts of the city, injuring several people, including a sub-inspector, a constable and some journalists. Commercial businesses and vehicles were burnt down by unknown persons.
The reason for the clashes has yet to be determined, but the situation is now under control, police said.
The two groups belonging to different parts of the society threw stones at Julfekar Galli, Kubheer Road, Ganesh Nagar, Medarigalli around 21:00. Then they set fire to two-wheelers in the bus stop, causing tension. The fighting groups were dispersed by policemen who took action. Security is overseen by Bhainsa DSP Narsing Rao.
A sub-inspector and five journalists who discussed the collisions sustained injuries.
According to police, about 100 suspected persons were arrested. About 600 policemen led by 50 top officers were deployed across the city. The injured were taken to hospitals in the villages of Bhainsa and Nirmal, while the seriously injured were rushed to Nizamabad. The condition of the injured persons is stable, said SP Vishnu S Warrier, chief of police.
In May last year, members of a group pelted themselves with stones against another group when someone in a debilitated condition caused a nuisance near their holy place and caused tension in Bhainsa. About 20 suspects, who were responsible for the collisions, were then arrested by police.
Tension prevailed on January 13 last year when a group burned down about 10 motorcycles of another group after a common collision in the city of Bhainsa. At least 59 people have been arrested for their alleged role in the riots. Joint violence claimed nine lives, including six from a family in Bhainsa in 2008.
