Australian fixed wireless and wholesale network infrastructure provider, Swoop, has announced the appointment of John Phillips as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) ahead of its proposed listing on the ASX in April.

Phillips will join the senior leadership team at Swoop composed of industry veterans and board members including Alex West as CEO, Vocus founder and Chairman of Swoop, James Spenceley and Amcom Founder and Swoop Director, Tony Grist.

In the newly created role, Phillips will be "responsible for overall financial performance, growing the business organically and through acquisition and taking the company onto the ASX." The company notes that Phillips "brings a wealth of experience with him to the role with a career spanning nearly three decades.

Prior to Swoop, John was CFO and Company Secretary at OptiComm, a telecommunications fibre infrastructure provider, where he played a pivotal role in taking the company through an IPO and on to the ASX.

"He has also held senior roles at Oakton, an ASX listed full service digital advisory and technology solutions organisation where he was Group CFO and Acumen Alliance, an IT services and business consultancy, where he was CEO."

Commenting on the appointment Alex West, Swoop CEO said: “John’s unrivalled experience both within the telecommunications industry and in taking businesses to IPO, will undoubtedly help catapult Swoop into its next phase of growth. He joins us at an incredibly exciting time, and we’re delighted to have him onboard.”

John Phillips, the new CFO said: “I’m delighted to be joining Swoop at a time where the telecommunication industry is absolutely critical. The impact of COVID-19 has pushed society towards an always-on world and the need for stable and reliable connectivity has never been more important. The telco industry is one of high growth and I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting journey.”

In February, Swoop announced its plans to list on the ASX through a reverse takeover having been acquired by Stemify Ltd. The deal, which is worth $61.3 million, will also include NodeOne, a Perth-based NBN retail service and fixed wireless provider.

Swoop, formerly known as Cirrus Communications, was one of the earliest fixed wireless operators in Australia. Founded in 2004 the business operates one of the largest fixed wireless networks with 220 towers across all mainland states and 110 staff.
