Slain Youth Congress leader’s father questions police probe

Bathinda: Father of Faridkot district Youth Congress unit president, Gurlal Singh Bhalwan, who was killed on February 18, has raised questions over the investigation. Sukhchain Singh threatened to commit suicide if justice was not done.
He also wrote to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and DGP Dinkar Gupta, asking them to direct Faridkot police to speed up investigations in an impartial manner. He also alleged that it looked like the police was being pressured.
Speaking with media persons at his residence on Sunday, Sukhchain said, “Despite our family belonging to the ruling Congress, we have doubts on investigations. The police are treating the arrested in a friendly manner. We want every detail of who hatched the conspiracy, who killed my son and who wants to save the arrested persons.”
He declared that if justice was not done, he would commit suicide and said that he had communicated this to the CM and DGP. The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi group had taken responsibility for Gurlal’s killing. Delhi police had arrested three persons, who were brought to Faridkot and police made more arrests.
Faridkot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Swarandeep Singh denied charges of laxity or pressure and said, “police is investigating on the basis of merit and facts. Guilty persons have been arrested and investigations are being conducted in an impartial manner. We fail to understand why the father of the deceased is not convinced.”
