Team India on Saturday brought up their hat-trick victory in the fourth and final Test at Motera after they beat England by an innings and 25 runs to win the series 3-1. The series win has ensured India a spot in the finals of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) at Lord’s where they will meet New Zealand later in June this year. On the other hand, England’s defeat has now shut the doors for Australia, which were backing their arch-rivals to beat the hosts in order to qualify for the finals of WTC.
Saturday’s win came after a splendid batting display by Rishabh Pant (101) and Washington Sundar (96*) who saved the hosts from a collapse and better, turned the match on its head by extending the lead to 160 runs after England was bowled out for 205. England once again looked listless as the guests bowed down to a ruthless spin bowling attack by Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin who teamed up to pick a five-for each, sending the entire team back to the pavilion before the end of the day’s play. With only 135 runs scored in their second, England lost the match by 25 runs and an innings and subsequently the series 1-3.
That victory against England means India finish the league phase of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship with a fine view from the top of the table 🔝#INDvENG | #WTC21 pic.twitter.com/rXFiKPXdB7— ICC (@ICC) March 6, 2021
India’s win, for obvious reasons, lit up the social media where fans celebrated the series victory with jokes and memes. Several others came out to mock Australia and England both of which were “defeated” by India on the same day. While many are looking forward to seeing a cracker of a contest between India and New Zealand at the Lord’s in June.

The fourth Test wrapped up within three days following an extraordinary Test at the same venue where India had earlier beaten England by 10 wickets inside two days.
